Mathematical Days – Conference – José Paulo Viana
On 10th December, we received as a guest speaker, Professor José Paulo Viana, also known for writing the section 'Challenges', on Sundays, in the newspaper “Público” and as the author of the books “Challenges” that already has 10 publications. The 'Challenges' section began with the launch of the newspaper, “Público”, in March 1990, making it one of the oldest sections of the Portuguese press. It was honored with the 2014 Media Living Science Award.

José Paulo Viana, as well as a mathematics professor, has developed an intense activity as a speaker. This time, José Paulo Viana gave two conferences. 'The most famous of numbers', in which several properties and curious facts about the number Pi were explored. 'The fascination of probabilities' that explained to the audience the use of probabilities in the most diverse day to day situations.

There were moments of reflection, fun and real challenges to our critical spirit.
